Beach safety: dangerous rip currents this morning
The National Weather Service has a Rip Current Statement in effect for Bolivar Peninsula’s Gulf-facing beaches through 7 a.m. today. Dangerous currents can carry swimmers away from shore. Avoid entering the surf while the hazard persists; an alert’s expiration is not proof that the water has become safe. The NWS advises swimming near a lifeguard and away from rocks, jetties and piers. If caught in a rip current, float rather than fighting it, and call or wave for help if unable to escape. Read the NWS Rip Current Statement.
Current weather and today’s outlook
The early-morning local weather lookup reports clear skies and about 55°F. The NWS forecast calls for a sunny Sunday, high near 72°F, with northeast winds of 10–15 mph. Tonight is forecast to be mostly clear, with a low around 65°F and northeast winds of 5–10 mph. These forecast values are separate from the current weather snapshot. NWS Crystal Beach-area forecast.
Practical fishing outlook: the lighter wind forecast offers a better planning window than Saturday’s strong winds, but assess the surf and water clarity in person before choosing a location. Favor a safe, sheltered bank position over wading or wave-exposed rocks this morning. The morning major period overlaps sunrise and a predicted falling tide; the evening major follows the afternoon low. Those are possible windows to watch for moving water and bait, not a promise of catches or safe conditions. Check the latest marine forecast before boating.
