Practical fishing outlook
The best first choice is the 6:42–8:42 a.m. major period. It overlaps sunrise, cooler air, and the beginning of the long falling tide after the early-morning high. Work passes, drains, the surf edge, and structure where bait is moving out with the water.
The afternoon minor period may still produce, but the heat will be near its peak and tidal movement will be limited. The 7:09–9:09 p.m. major period is the best second option: it begins near sunset and follows the 5:06 p.m. low as the tide starts to turn upward. Bring water and sun protection if fishing during the day.
Current red-tide safety update
Texas Parks and Wildlife’s current status page remains active for a confirmed red-tide event. Its latest posted update, covering September 7–11, reports fish kills and respiratory symptoms on Bolivar Peninsula and at Crystal Beach, with water samples showing moderate to high concentrations of red tide.
- If coughing, eye irritation, wheezing, or shortness of breath develops, leave the affected shoreline and move to fresh air.
- People with asthma or other respiratory conditions should use extra caution.
- Avoid handling dead fish. Check current shellfish-closure information before harvesting or eating locally collected shellfish.
- Conditions can vary from one stretch of beach to another, so reassess when you arrive.
