Crystal Beach Fishing Report — October 4, 2026

Sunday, October 4, 2026 — Crystal Beach and Port Bolivar, Texas

Today’s quick look

  • Port Bolivar tides (CDT, MLLW): High at 4:47 a.m. — 2.28 ft; low at 5:41 p.m. — 0.30 ft.
  • Sunrise: 7:14 a.m.   Sunset: 7:00 p.m.
  • Moon: Waning crescent, about 40% illuminated.
  • Weather near daybreak: Cloudy and about 77°F, with thunderstorms expected at intervals through the day and temperatures reaching around 80°F.

Solunar fishing periods

  • Major: 7:10–9:10 a.m. and 7:44–9:44 p.m.
  • Minor: 12:25–1:25 a.m. and 2:54–3:54 p.m.

The solunar windows are calculated from today’s moonrise, moonset and lunar transit times for Port Bolivar.

Practical fishing outlook

The morning major period overlaps daybreak and the outgoing tide after the pre-dawn high. Under ordinary conditions, that would favor drains, cuts and protected current seams. The afternoon minor period falls during the long drop toward the 5:41 p.m. low, while the evening major period begins after low tide as water starts returning.

Today’s weather and marine hazards matter more than the calendar, however. Thunderstorms, dangerous rip currents, strong northeast wind and rough Gulf seas make exposed surf, jetties and small-boat fishing poor choices. If lightning is absent and local conditions permit, stay with sheltered bay-side or shore-access water and be ready to leave immediately when thunder is heard.

Current safety alerts

  • High rip-current risk: In effect for Gulf-facing Bolivar Peninsula beaches through Sunday morning. Stay out of the surf and away from rocks, jetties and piers while the risk remains high.
  • Small Craft Advisory: In effect for nearby Gulf waters through 1:00 p.m. Monday. Northeast winds of 15–25 knots, gusts up to 30 knots and seas of 4–7 feet are expected.
  • Thunderstorms: Storms are expected at intervals today. Leave the beach, jetties and open water immediately when thunder is heard.
  • Red-tide monitoring: Texas Parks and Wildlife’s latest posted Upper Coast update reports relatively low or absent red-tide cell concentrations and mild-to-nonexistent impacts, following the September bloom. Avoid discolored water, dead or distressed fish, and any area that causes eye, throat or breathing irritation.
